Hi there, I’m

John Yucel

Hello!

I'm John Yucel — a Virginia Tech graduate passionate about networking, systems, and all things tech.

This site is built on an original design by Ed Hinrichsen, which I've customized extensively: the color scheme, the WebGL scene, the terminal content, and all the projects you'll find below are my own.

I'm currently focused on home lab work and growing toward a career in systems engineering. This site is where I document what I build.

Projects

ProxMox Home Server

2025

I recently built a home server using ProxMox. I'm still testing and working with it to see what I can do. I've tried to create some LXC's like OpenWebUI and PiHole. I'm also working on a few other projects like the *Arr Stack and more. I'll go into more further down the page as I add more to it.

This Website

Now

I have never coded in TypeScript, HTML, or CSS before. There is also WebGL. Ed is a very smart guy. I've just starting messing around with the colors and the code but I want to be able to make the WebGL look different. This is how I always wanted my website to look and it's crazy I found it.

Minecraft Server

2024–Now

I run a private Minecraft Java Edition server for friends, hosted inside a lightweight Debian container on my ProxMox home server. Rather than exposing my home IP or dealing with port forwarding, I use playit.gg — a free tunneling service that provides a clean public address friends can connect to directly, while keeping my home network private.

The server is always-on and runs a survival world. Setting it up taught me a lot about server management, tunneling, and keeping services alive inside containers.

This represents just a small selection of the projects I have worked on over the years. I have many more pieces of personal, university and design work.
